Troop 274 plans and camps at least one weekend a month, September-May. We also plan one week at a local scout camp during the summer.
All scouts are responsible to “be prepared” for these outings. It is important to pack clothes and gear appropriate to the weather. A list of important items needed on campouts is listed in the Scout Handbook on pages 224-227. The troop provides expensive gear, such as: tents, cooking equipment, and propane lanterns.
Sign-up sheets for outings can be found on the bulletin board at the meetings. These will contain all of the specifics of that outing such as the location, and the time. Scouts (and parents planning to attend) MUST sign up for these outings in advance, so we can plan and provide the appropriate gear and food.
Summer Camp: The troop attends camp for one week each summer at one of the BSA camps located in CT. We usually attend the first week of July. This is a wonderful experience for every Scout and the Troop strongly encourages all Scouts to attend. Scouts that attend have the opportunity to earn many Merit Badges that are not offered at Troop Meetings. These Merit Badges can include swimming, small boat sailing, wood carving, leather working, archery, shotgun shooting, etc. Parents often find camp a lot of fun too and are encouraged to come visit during the week.
Outings: The troop goes on a variety of outings throughout the year. They are all fun, and enjoyable. The outings’ destinations depend on the season. Here are some of the outings the scouts enjoy each year.
